Grandaddy- A Small Town Hero

On January 8th, 2011 Richard Huff, My Grandaddy, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. It was a long, hard road for him, but I know he is not suffering anymore. His funeral was yesterday and despite sleet, ice, and snow tons of people came regardless. What does this say about him?

He was a man of faith, honor, and consistency.
He was a man who was loved and looked up too. Everyone knew Richard in his little town of Arkansas.
He was a man of love. He was married to my grandmother over 53 years.
He was a man of hard work. You can see houses he built or helped build all over in his town.
He was a man of jokes. He was constantly making people laugh.
Most importantly, He was a man that loved God and devoted his life to Him. That is why I know so many people loved him. He lived a life of example. One way I know this to be true is the last time I got to see him was a few days before Christmas. My grandparents door and wall were covered with Christmas cards all hand written about their love for Richard and reasons why. Card after card had things about his willingness to help others without asking anything in return. How when people would move into town they would be directed to get to know him, because he would always be there for them.

Although he is gone on earth. I am glad that I will get to see him again in heaven. He will be able to be his joking, laughing, healthy self. I thank God for the time I had with my Grandaddy, one of my heroes.

I love you and will miss you!
